Mutts Shelter Stories: Love. Guaranteed. Reviews
"Mutts Shelter Stories: Love. Guaranteed." is a wonderful book by cartoonist and animal advocate Patrick McDonnell. For years I have adopted shelter cats, often seeking older and less adoptable animals because I find them the most loving and rewarding to live with. This book combines McDonnell's insight into the animal psyche in poignant cartoons with stories of adopted animals and the joy they brought to the homes they eventually found, often after very arduous journeys to their final forever home.
First, I must say, that I have loved the 'Shelter Stories' strip and followed it in the papers: Patrick shows the bittersweet side to working with rescue animals so poignantly, and makes his point in such a sweet way....being a rescue worker myself, it means so much to see the lovely faces of all of these critters, big and small, now living in their furever homes, safe and loved- that is the whole point to what we do- and the photos taken by their adoring owners really capture their personalities and joy these animals have to give, and the love they share with us- and the lessons about life that they teach us. A wonderful gift for ANY animal lover......done very nicely and will be a treasured addition to any pet lovers collection.
This is a heartwarming collection that always cheers me up and reminds me of why I love my own rescued pets. It would make a wonderful gift for the pet lover(s) in your life.
One of my favorite comic strips. Good quality, easy to read and very enjoyable book. If you like comics or if you like animals, this is a good choice for you. It is also a great gift. The author does a series called shelter stories at least once a year and focuses on animal adoption – cute – with a little bit of an emotional tug on the heart strings.
A cute recap of the shelter stories strips from the McDonnell's series, combined with nice photos and stories about adopted pets from their owners. I volunteer in animal sheltering and intend to get a few more copies of this book to give out as gifts.
Patrick McDonnell's "Shelter Stories" are a collection of cartoons and real-life stories of shelter animals awaiting adoption as well as those lucky enough to find loving family homes. Be prepared to shed a tear as you read how desperately these animals want to be taken home and loved. They are shown as being patient, but with great hope that "maybe tomorrow" someone will come for them.
Cherished each page. What he's teaching should be part of every school curriculum regardless of age.
Shelter stories is beautifully done with Patrick McDonnell's wonderful cartoons, and real life photos of animals in shelters. Who doesn't love happy endings, adopting a pet? His comic strip and books are popular gift items and portray the lives of those in shelters who patiently wait, hoping for a permanent home.
