Vintage Clothing for the Fashion Doll Reviews
Just got my book and it looks like I will be able to gleam from it's use. I really do like Barbie in the late 50's and into the 60's the best.
A great book with patterns to copy to make more clothes for Barbie.
The seam allowances are a bit narrow. I chose to widen them to 1/4 inch and then cut them down later. The instructions are lacking in some parts, like the bubble skirt. The easy sections are very well shown, the tricky, I had to figure out myself. But I have sewn Barbie clothes for a long time and I really didn't have a problem. The book I really like and shows how the basic pattern was altered is "Fashion Doll Clothing" by Rosemarie Ionker. The pattrns are for several size dolls, but could easily be altered to the doll of choice. The photos are wonderful and very stylish. She showed great choice of fabrics.
I own several pieces by Marirose and she is a dream to work with. Her work is top notch and I admire and respect her talent, but this is a review of book.
I spend hours looking through this book, imaging what kinds of fabrics to use for each vintage dress design! The author has really easy-to-understand instructions for many of Mattel's original doll outfits. It makes me, a novice seamstress feel confident and excited about sewing. It brings back memories of my childhood and watching my older sister sew clothes for my barbies! I can't wait to start making clothes for my daughter! Highly recommend.
A very detailed and describing book. Many detailed pictures.
There are some really sweet outfits to make for fashion dolls and patterns and instructions that make the job easier. Photos are bright and clear.
