The Venomous Snakes and their Mimics of Panama and Costa Rica: Las Culebras Venenosas y sus Mímicas de Panamá y Costa Rica Reviews
This guide is laid out perfectly! Each species gets a page or two with their common name, scientific name, a picture, a description of their morphology, abundance, range (with a map), habitat, habits, and a list of similar species. At the top of each page is a red exclamation point next to the name if it is a venomous species, and green M if it is a mimic.
Living in a tropical dry forest, we have a variety that frequent our property. The locals know their snakes well but there also preconceptions that need to be examined. This book helps explain the differences
Exactly what I needed to prepare for my trip to Central America. This book is easy to read with great illustrations that make identifying the many snakes of the area easy and quick to do. Knowing which snakes are venomous and which are mimics can be a life saver in that environment. Must have for travelling to this area! Get it-learn it-be prepared.
A lot of scientific reading but I expect informative when I am there.
This is an exceptionally well written field guide filling in some of the gaps in our knowledge. Great natural history information and photos. This book should be caried by both scientists and vacationers/retirees in the tropics, and for tropical field courses. The fact that it has sections both in English and Spanish make it more helpful and informative!
learning Spanish and Snakes at the same time, what more?
Fantastic book! Very comprehensive and useful with comparative images for diagnostic and notes on ecology! Would recommend!
THIS RATING IS FOR THE KINDLE EDITION. SOME OF THE TEXT IN THE TABLES WAS CUT OFF AND THE REPRODUCTION OF THE PHOTOS WERE SO POOR AS TO BE WORTHLESS. I DO THINK THAT THE PRINT BOOK WOULD RATE FOUR STARS.
