Identification, Selection and Use of Southern Plants: For Landscape Design (Fourth Revised Edition) Reviews
I recommend this book for all southern gardeners interested in plant identification, propagation, detailed descriptions and growing condition requirements of most trees, shrubs, vines and landscape plants in the southern zones. Detailed drawings and descriptions aid in plant identification. The book is written so that a gardener can become as knowledgable about plants as they want to be since the information provides growing information for those who wish to stop there, and extensive details are provided for those who want to know more. Oldenwald has remained relevant as gardeners and landscapers are presented with specimens used in modern landscapes, thus his "revised" editions. My copy never makes it to the bookshelf. I like to keep it handy for quick reference.
Southern Plants is an excellent book - my bible on plants!
Great identification book although tedious at times because it is in black and white.
I am in a Garden Club and this book will be very helpful identifying plants that some members bring in when we have our flower show. We have horticulture talks and bring in flowers to our meetings. Some times members don't know the name of their plants or flowers.
Great book. Great for identifying plants. I used this book to help me to decide what plants to use in my landscape
Completely satisfied with reference book. Actually text book for LSU classes. Constantly use it with my retail nursery and landscaping business. Information and artwork are outstanding. Worthwhile investment for any plant lover in south Louisiana.
One of the best books for reference for landscaping around. Well illustrated and very informative. In fact this is my second copy as I used the first so often that the binding was becoming loose. Highly recommended!
Well edited by the author, with just the right amount of information for the reader. Looks nice on a coffee table or sideboard as well.
